Custom Commissions

To talk to me about a custom commission piece, please

send me an e-mail      to   woodandwatercolors@gmail.com

How does the commission process work?

- Send me an e-mail (linked above, details in the following question) to get started

- We will talk about what you are looking for, and I will give you a quote for the project

- After we have figured out the details, I will ask you for a deposit, or sometimes payment in full for small projects, to help cover the cost of supplies. Payments can be made in a variety of ways (Cash, Venmo, Paypal, Zelle, or via major credit cards through my Square website).

- After I am finished with your painting, I will send you a photo so that you can ask for any minor changes (add another tree, make the hair darker, etc.) Please note that some edits may not be possible (due to the nature of watercolors) without completely re-doing the entire painting, but I work so closely from the reference photo that that is not usually a problem.

- Payments must be made in full before the finished piece is delivered or shipped.

What do you need to know to start?

- The size you have in mind
- What you would like painted - please attach 1-3 reference photos to your e-mail
- If you would like the piece to be framed for an additional fee (all paintings include a backing board, white mat, and clear sleeve to protect the painting in transit)
- The date that you need the piece done by. Usually, custom commissions can be completed in 3-4 weeks, but for larger pieces, detailed work, or during holiday seasons, it may take a little longer. I may be able to accommodate some rush work for a slightly higher fee

What kind of commissions do you do?

- Pet portraits

- House paintings

- Family vacation spots

- Church paintings

- Wedding bouquets

- Memory preservation

- Special event gifts (dance recitals, graduations, Mothers' Day and Fathers' Day, birthdays, etc.)

- and more!

*Note: I generally do not paint portrait-style faces. Please see some samples in the gallery tab for the simple style of faces that I can do, and I am happy to recommend a portrait artist friend if that is what you are looking for!

Can you make changes to a reference photo?

- Yes!

- In your initial e-mail, please include any details about what you would like changed in the photo. For example, "I'd like to make her shirt blue instead of white," or "Can my dog be sitting in the grass instead of the floor inside?" or "This is a picture in the fall, but I would like the painting to look like summer."

- I'm also able to change outfits, and in many cases, add or remove people from the photo. For example, in this beach painting, the woman and her youngest child were not in the original reference photo, so I added them in to make it a full family picture. Just ask - I will tell you if something is not possible, at least for me and my skill level.

What do custom pieces cost?

- This question is hard to answer without knowing more specifics about the particular painting, because it depends on the level of detail required, the size of the painting, if I will need to purchase any unique supplies (like a specific special paint, or paper in a size larger than that I usually work with). I can provide an estimate to you after getting some details from you, and the reference photo is the most important thing I would need to give you a quote. This helps me estimate how long it will likely take me to finish the work.

- For example, a pet portrait on a simple background (grass, a solid color blanket, etc.) begins around $75, and will be a little more if it's larger than an 8x10 or a pet with complex coloring or unique details (like clothing/accessories or more complicated backgrounds).

- A house or church painting begins around $150, due to the architectural details and precision required (your house needs to have straight lines!). Large homes, ones with unique details, or paintings larger than a 9x12 may cost more.

- If you would like a custom commission but are on a tight budget, please don't hesitate to reach out - let me know what budget level you are at, and we can talk about something I can make for you in that price range. Usually this means sacrificing some of the smaller details (like a painting of a house, but you wouldn't see individual window panes or detailed backgrounds), or painting a smaller size, but I am happy to work with clients on an individual basis.
